Getting Started Right for the New Year

It is all about the plan!  Start simple and make a few changes slowly.  Integrate healthy ideas into your life and include everyone in the family.
1.  Take inventory.  What do you have?  What do you need? And, what should you get rid of?  Inventory the pantry and freezer, create a list of staples (this makes a great pre-made grocery list), and remember to always have snack foods that are quick and yummy.
2.  the My Healthy Helper cookbook has hundreds of easy and healthy recipes.  Have each person in the family pick out a couple of their favorites.  When you make these, make extra to freeze for lunches and lazy days.  Also, find a few "go-to meals."  These are emergency meals that you can go to when the day gets too busy, you forgot to plan something or you just don't feel like cooking.  All the ingredients are staples and, therefore, always available.  Make your "go-to meal" instead of picking up "to-go" and you will feel better afterward.
3.  Plan your week.  Create a weekly meal plan.  This helps with creating the grocery list and saves time and frustration later.  Make it flexible and enjoyable for everyone.  Include meatless meals.  Save and reuse them.
4.  Always make and take a grocery list!!
